First Steps in Hong Kong

[this was written at the beginning of our trip; I’m trying to catch up all of my spaces of sharing about our journey in Asia. ]

We have been soaking in the last two days in Hong Kong. My brother’s kids are the same ages as our kids. The last time they saw each other they were 3 & not even one yet.

I often feel overwhelmed with culture shock when returning to the States. So many options, such big roads, houses etc, etc. And yet, being in Hong Kong, although I never lived here, feels like a version of home, that isn’t shocking.

We spent our first day mostly indoors because of jet lag and rain. Today was our first day exploring. We went to a nearby market with a mall. There was a big outdoor playground that was wet. My adult reaction was to find somewhere dry. We told the kids we were going to keep walking. Delali panicked at the thought of just walking by this glorious playground ship and not stopping to play. Who cares about the rain??

While the sights and environment around me feels so familiar, I find myself needing to pause and remember how exhilarating and new this all is for our kids.

They are having the time of their lives. And so are we.
