I’m popping on here to share some exciting news; Martine got baptized on Sunday. Her Sunday School teacher Jo, an Australian missionary, spent the last few weeks with her going through a baptism class.

On Sunday morning I thought-shoot! I wish I would have bought some flowers to celebrate Martine, but the flower shop is closed on Sunday. That morning we drove across town to pick up our friend Kathy, because we were taking her to the airport later that day. As we drove to the lodge she was staying at, I saw a man walking with a bucket of red roses! They were 50 cents each, so I bought 5! One for her from each one of us in the family. I’ve never seen someone walking with a bucket of roses before. That was special.

In very typical Malawian fashion, the pool that the church was using for baptism had been used a few weeks prior as a tarp to cover speakers as the worship band had traveled to an outreach. Thankfully the pastors had the foresight and tried filling the pool on Friday night-and discovered all the holes. They had a guy who fixes bicycle tires come and fix the pool, but despite his efforts, there were still holes, and on Sunday morning they were still trying to figure out what to do. Two guys went to get barrels of water from the water company to be able to more quickly fill the pool.

Kossi helped dumping the water into the pool. It was probably one of the heaviest things Kossi has tried to lift (with the help of another guy).

Martine was baptized and we were able to celebrate our girl!
