House on the hill

I’ve updated on our FB page and through newsletters, but our blog hasn’t seen the updates on the house! We are so close to being done. The borehole was drilled at the end of July, bringing water to the house! That has been a game changer, as we have been able to use our kitchen sink to clean dishes, as well as access water from taps outside our house. In September we installed solar. It’s still a work in progress to get it at the functioning level it needs to be at.
The windows and doors have been all installed. The last part for the inside of the house is the kitchen shelving and bedroom closet/storage spaces along with little bits and bobs. The last big project for the house is to do the verandah. The materials have been purchased, and the work will begin on it soon. Beyond that, we need to reconstruct a better shower/bathroom situation, as what is currently being used is what we had built when we thought we would simply be camping.
I am so humbled by this house, as it is so much bigger and grander than I imagined. It’s been a combination of my ideas and Geoffry, our carpenter turned foreman executing it, and always doing far better than I imagined.
We see the potential for this house to bless many, and to be used in many different ways in the years to come. We are so grateful for all the incredible support that has poured in to make this possible. It’s already housed several guests even though it isn’t completed.
Whether we rent it out on air bnb, or simply share it with friends and extended community, we thought it would be nice to have a fire pit for those cooler months of the year. Now that it’s turned hot, it’s the perfect spot for dinner as the sun sets on the other side of the hill.
