A cottage on a hill

In January we began to dream of building a house in the village of Agabu, which is 2.5 hours north of us. One of our partner ministries runs projects there and we have a growing desire to be more connected to their work, as we see the need for food security, education, healthcare and so much more in this nation. For anyone who is new to following us, Malawi is experiencing an El Niño year, which means we have had below average rainfall, which has significantly affected the maize crops. The average Malawian is a subsistence farmer, and so this below average rainfall is detrimental.
We first thought to just build a thatched roof structure that we could pitch our tent under, and would allow us more time in the village as we see how God guides our steps. It would be affordable, and it would allow us to more easily set up our tent and have some shade. During our second camping trip, I looked at the structure as it was beginning to be built and thought-you know, the builder built it so high, we could really put a small bedroom under there for the kids. And so began the transformation from a platform to camp on, to becoming a cottage on a hill.
It’s been over a month since we have camped in the village, and everyone in the family is itching to get back there. We patiently wait, as we know it’s worth it, and will make that next trip that much more exciting.
It’s all been a journey of faith, taking one step at a time, as is how He always leads us. If you feel led to give towards the continued financial needs for this, you can do so through the link below.
The cottage is built on the organization’s land, and our heart is to use it while we are in the village and to share it with other missionaries during their stays in the village.
